In the reading, “Can You Imagine? Transnational Migration and the Globalization of Grassroots Politics”, Michael Peter Smith conveys explains transnational migration on a political and economical aspect. He talks about how these refugees have this “collective desire to recapture or reterritorialize a ‘homeland’”. These Asian countries undergo political or economical affairs with other countries and it result in disaster like war. The film that we were watching in class is a great example of what the author is explaining in the article. The Vietnamese immigrants lost their home and try to recreate their home here in the United States calling it “Little Saigon”. The Vietnamese were not the only Asian groups to have this “imagined life”, there are the Koreans with Koreatown, Chinese with Chinatown, and even Filipinos with Little Manila.
Question: If you asked an Asian immigrant today, would they say that the United States or their homeland to be considered "home"?
