Week 3: Chloe Shiau

Christopher Lee's "Diaspora, Transnationalism, and Asian American Studies: Positions and Debates" focuses on transnationalism and how it ties in with "labor, migration, race, and gender" of Asians Americans.  Lee also uses the term "diaspora" many times and relates it with transnationalism because he believes that diasporas have "become prominent in a number of projects dealing with the transnational character of Asian America," and also talks about other scholar's opinions about these two words. I think that because of diasporas, Asian Americans find similarities within each other and together they can connect stronger outside the borders. This related greatly to the growth of technology in America. In fields such as software, many American companies hire outside in countries such as India and China. Because of this, many of them move to America and settle together in a community, especially in the Silicon Valley.

Question: Reaching outside borders is beneficial for companies because Asians outside of America do not mind less pay, but what does this mean to Asian Americans who were born and raised in America, and who are also in the technological field?
