Aung Lin-Week 6-Blog 6

I will be writing this week’s blog on Maira’s article “Mixed Desires.” I love this article because it is written by one of our ASA professor in our department. From Maira, I learned many interesting facts about New York City that I’ve never heard of. I didn’t know that in NYC, there are many second generation Indian youths with their own pop culture. These youth are called  “desi youth.” These youth makes fusion of Hindi, Pakistani dance and music with American music. Not only that they all like to party and dance. These young Indian DJs that make this fusion music work part time for fun at parties, clubs, restaurants and college campuses. It’s nice to see these young Indian youth creating new music with American and Indian music. Also these events are called “desi scenes” that brought them together as one. We watched Paris By Night in class and it's nice to listen to Asian music.

Question:
What is Maira trying to say about Indians being displaced? What does that have to do with desi youth? How is all this related to transnationalism?
