Week 4 - The Trans-Pacific Partnership: A Deeply Flawed Partnership - Jimmy Tran

In “The Trans-Pacific Partnership: A Deeply Flawed Partnership” by Mel Gurtov, he explains why the Trans-Pacific Partnership (TPP) does business in selfish ways that seems to only benefit them. He talks about hoe the American government has tricked its people by making up excuses to get involved in foreign affairs. President Barack Obama wants to put the TPP on a “fast track” because it brings in new incentives to increase corporate salaries and making jobs abroad. The article argues that the TPP does not benefit human interests at all because it only promotes the interest of trading and investment firms that has made globalization for what it is today. This leads to fast economics because the supply and demand of products are generated and shipped around the world at efficient rates. In terms of Nike and their connection with TPP, the exploitations of their Asian labor force has been existing for a long time. The author feels that the TPP are full of themselves because they claim that they care about their workers in Asian counties. However, he argues that their wages speak for themselves.

Since the TPP only promotes the interest of trading and investment firms that leads to globalization which the human population is a part of, how does that not serve their interest?
