In “Cultural Identity and Diaspora” by
Stuart Hall, the article does a good job of talking about how the black subject
is at the center of attention. Additionally, a new type of diaspora exist
because of the other forms of visual representation of the new subjects such as
Afro – Caribbean and Asian that came from the West. This is being questioned
because it has to do with the issue of cultural identity. The ethnicity of
Black and Asian are not the same but somehow the cultural identity between the two are
related somehow. Cultural identity helps identify the common history of the
people and how it shapes that specific group of people. This is related to
culture because the past is the key to the present. This means that culture
today is reflected upon the experiences that happened in the past.
Since cultural practices
and forms of representation have the black subject at their centre, how does it
put the issue of cultural identity in question? Why does black subject causes
controversy within the cultural identity aspect?
