Courtney Saeteurn Week 5

In Michael Peter Smith's article Transnational Migration and Globalization of Grassroots Politics, the author talks about the globalization of culture characterizing transmigrants, exiles, and refugees. This article also speaks about global grassroots movements who are practicing modes of movement to evoke change in their community. The author explains how there are different types of migrants from other countries with varying ties to the home country and their adapted country. This has only been made possible by the invention of technology. Technology closes the gaps of space and time between people across the world. It allows communication with each other to happen at an instance. The people who have connections still to their home land like the example of the factory worker in America and also owns a small business in Mexico. These two lifestyles are completely different but these transmigrants are able to maintain it. With people like this, who have connections in both places, the globalization of grass roots movements can happen. The duality in these people allow them to connect to the immigrant people of America as well as have financial support from back home to get their points across.
