Week 3 Blog: Kurt Romero

In the reading, “Diaspora, Transnationalism, and Asian American Studies: Positions and Debates” by Christopher Lee, explains transnationalism through what we have talked about in class; labor, migration, and race. However, Christopher Lee also talks about how gender and sexuallity also ties into it. It also talks about diaspora and its origin which was from Judaic Studies or from the Jewish communities. Their community and the Asian community have been affected by displacement which creates this relationship between the Eastern and Western countries. What I am understanding from the reading is that Transnationalism and Globalization is what creates different meanings for diaspora.

Question: Do other ethnic groups such as Hispanic or African Americans face similar problems to identify their “homelands” or where they fit in?
