Christopher Lee seeks to discuss in “Diaspora,
Transnationalism, and Asian American Studies: Positions and Debates” about how
the Asian American Studies come to be an object of study as transnational. Diaspora, a terminology that Lee considers to
be key in this topic, is described as a study that offers new models for
researching and understanding community and identity in an era of
globalization. In addition, Lee also
talks about how diaspora also opens a range of comparison between communities
that have experienced displacement and dispersal. I think that when writing about diaspora,
there definitely needs to have the inclusion of globalization and
communities. From what we’ve been
learning, diaspora seems to be a phenomenon affected by those two factors. These ideas definitely connect to the theme
of transnationalism and including the transcendence of boundaries and
interconnectivity. One question that I
do have for this reading is that how can we define diaspora in a way where it can be simple enough but conclusive where it doesn't have to be a changing terminology anymore?
