Week 4 Blog: Kurt Romero

In the reading “The Trans-Pacific Partnership: A Deeply Flawed partnership”, Mel Gurtov talks about this “partnership” that the United States have with other countries. It talks about how these countries are connected to these manufacturing companies like Nike and how the United States, or other countries that sell these products benefit more than the residing country that makes them. These countries, like China, have poor work conditions in these factories and TPP say that it “includes the strongest, boldest human rights protections, labor protections, and environmental protections we’ve seen in a trade deal”. In the article, it also said that Obama would not trade with any of these countries that does not follow these guidelines, but how can he go about that when the demand for these products are so high? People would fight each other over these kinds of products, so not trading with these countries will result in riots.

Question: What are some solutions to help with these negative effects that the TPP bring unto this global manufacturing business?
