Week Nine: Courtney Saeteurn

Notes on Queer 'N Asian Virtual Sex

In Daniel Tseng's article "Notes on Queer 'N Asian Virtual Sex," the author talks about the gay male Asian community in the context of the virtual world. In the article he explains how being apart of this community means you are allowed to be whoever you want, transcending biological properties to be a different sex, age, and race all in the stroke of a key pad. Along with this these people can be choose to live any life in regards to relationship, social, or economic status. He explains how the internet has allowed the world to explore their sexual desires and realize that a lot of people have similar interests. Also, that different Asians tend to lie about certain things on the website. Some Asians come out as bisexual in order not to be completely exiled so that they can say they were just going through a phase. Also, some of the Asian gays selectively only like White gays because the American culture is a little more accepting of the gay male body then the Asian community. The author most importantly explains how the Asian gays on this websites are fetishized for the same reason Asian women are an object of sexual desires. The Asian gays online are transcending the asexual asian male image through the internet because other men of other races find them attractive because they think they are submissive.

Question: So if the Asian male body is transcending the asexual asian male stereotype so Asian female bodies in the virtual world perpetuate the hyper sexual female asian body?
