Week 9 Blog: Kurt Romero

In the chapter "The Rise of ICT in Viet Nam and in Diaspora" from the book Transnationalizing Viet Nam, it talks about how "27 percent of the Vietnamese population" rely on technology because it is their way of communication with relatives back home. The Information Communication Technology, also known as ICT, allows people to search and obtain information easily. Linh Caroline Valverde explains how "technology had played a major role in the lives of Vietnamese Americans" ever since the first few settlements in the US. The Vietnamese relied on the internet and cell phones to talk to their relatives. However, the Vietnamese government put a limit to what people can search and talk about when using the internet. Everyone uses the technology now. This also meant that there are communist and anticommunist activities that had to be monitored, but difficult to find because they use different means of communication. Technology has advanced a lot in a few years and this could be a good and bad thing.

Question: Technology is becoming more advanced everyday. Should people worry about technology being our own downfall?
