Week 10 Blog-MV

Martin Manalansan article, "In the Shadows of Stonewall," focused on the emerging practices of the modern world through globalization. The gay and lesbian movement has been a topic of interest for many years. Hence, this article explores the configuration, translation, affirmation, and negation of the oppression by Filipino gay men in America and the Philippines.  In a source, Manalasan explained the views of Filipino historians. In the Phillipines, bakla was used as a term to refer to men who are gay. They carry themselves as appropriate gay men. In doing so, this term differentiate Filipino and American Gay men. Americans are viewed by the Philippines  as impersonators and feminine. Filipinos, on the other hand, were raised to be constant. If they were born as a men, they will carry themselves as only men. If they like men, they will only like men. However, Manalansan enhanced the idea that gay has become the norm of the world. It has been welcomed in many forms and cultural differences does not differentiate the "sameness" of the people.

Question: As their are different classes of people, are their different classess of gay?
