Francisco Gomez Week 10 Blog

In the article, In the Shadows of Stonewall: Examining Gay Transnational Politics d the Diasporic Dilemma, by Martin F. Manalansan IV, he discusses the Stonewall movement for gay rights. The article discusses how the media portrayed certain events that happen but not the events that lead to it. The Stonewall movement is discussed of a huge move towards progress for the queer community. Unfortunately, that is not the case for all members of the queer community because even within the queer community there is those who experience more struggles than others. Queer people of color have always experience more discrimination than their fellow queer peers. Queer Filipino individuals suffer exclusion from Filipino culture because the terms used to identify queer members of their community are too shallow that doesn’t truly represent them. Even though Stonewall was the first step towards queer acceptance and equity, there are still many more things that need to be done!

Question: What actions do queer Filipino individuals need to take so that their can be more acceptance of queer people in the Filipino culture?
