In the article "Introduction: Asian American Formations in the Age of Globalization" by Evelyn Hu- Dehart, the author discusses how Asian Americans serve as a bridge between the United States and its home country. Hu-Dehart refers to the Asian Americans as "bridge-building transnationals" (page 9). Gary Locke was one of the first elected Asian American governor in the United States who overcame the struggles of being a minority and proved to his home country that he could become the bridge to help the US and China benefit from each other politically. While Locke became successful as a governor working as an American, he still did not forget to value his homeland and its culture. Q: Do Asian Americans have to serve as a bridge builder between American and Asia just because they grew up in America as Asians?
