In his work, "Diaspora, Transnationalism, and Asian American Studies: Position and Debates," Christopher Lee discusses how diaspora studies have had a significant role in various projects detailing the transnational character of Asian America. I was particularly intrigued by the discussion of studies that address the lived experience of transnationalism. Focusing on the lived experience allows for people to gain a large representation of experiences and viewpoints, thus contributing to a larger understanding of a topic. Aiwha Ong's proposal to return to anthropological research methods to produce a more concrete, scientific description of transnationalism is one example of how we can contribute towards making the discussion of identity less abstract.
Question: What does Sau-ling C. Wong mean when she says that denationalism threatens to undermine Asian American Studies?
