Week 3_Leng_Vang_ASA 114
The reading points out how migrants have come to be a part of the culture and structure of the new land they have come now to come live on, however, they still maintain homeland ties and ongoing social networks. This show how even though migrants are living and actively participating in the new country they still have connection the the old country that they have left. This creates a dichotomy of the homeland identifications and connections against the assimilation and development in the new land. The reading further suggests how these migrants through their nostaliga for a "purer and simpler" past, creates this dichotomy and lived.
Do you think that migrants who have nostalgia of their homeland while also simultaneuosly living and working in their new land, can they come to regard the new land as their home? Or do you think they will always think of their homeland, and only subsequent generations will regard the new land as their home? Why or Why not.
