Week2_Vanesa Guillen_ASA114

According to the reader Asian American Formation in the Age of Globalization, by Evelyn Hu-Dehart states how people that are Asian descent such as Gary Locke, can be complex to be considered as an "ethnic nationalist" or "bridge builders" which is to help connect Asian countries and the United States (Hu-Dehart, p. 2). Its a question whether the individual who considers themselves "American" is fully capable of helping their Asian roots/country. Although, Locke seems to be sure that his and other Asian Americans have sufficient cultural attributes and personal connections that can benefit the future or "Pacific Century" (Hu-Dehart, p. 3). Globalization and transnationalism help link connections to the U.S. and Asian countries without having to lose ties physically, emotionally, economically, socially and culturally (Hu-Dehart, p. 9). It is interesting to notice that Asian Americans have the passion to engage globally to fair economically. This part of the reading reminds me of the in-class lecture. I learned that it is important that the Asian American community has to be aware of their history and contributions to the U.S. so that they have the power to join the government and push for policies to help their community overseas.

Does Governor Gary Locke still have an effect on the Asian American community to help culturally and capital?
