This reading discusses the shifted narrative of home for the Asian diaspora. Transnationalist subjects are humans who actively create their lives based on the knowledge they possess. They are not submissive objects that someone else threw on a plane or a boat across an ocean just to take up space in America. What purpose does the narrative of (Asian) refugees as small, torpid agents serve for the U.S.? Communities and dynamic persons are built from the Asian diaspora. Once in their destination, all immigrants find that, “Displacements… are physical, cultural, and psychological” (11). For 1stgeneration immigrants, this centers around their definition of home, and its relation to specific place or nation. Choices surrounding attachment and restructuring are built within the resettlement model and are specific to each individual. Migrating is contingent on an emotionally laborious process that will affect generations to come in the pursuit of success, happiness, and or fulfillment.
