Economics
In one of this week's readings, Arif Dirlik writes about contemporary Asian America and the ways in which it is shaped, not based on regard of actual lived experiences, but rather that it might be founded on the basis of exploitation gathered through globalization. This is a common topic of Asian America, as we question: who decides the definition of "Asian America" or "Asian American"? Though there does need to be a somewhat coined definition in order to have some idea of what a term means, the histories behind the Asian diasporas and lived experiences cannot be defined as one singular tribute. Dirlik makes a point that the relation between Asians and the global economy is continuously growing, and while it does, others continue to create preconceived notions about a single race based on economic relations. So, is there an easy fix to this problem? If so, how can we demolish these stigmas worldwide?
