In “Social Transformations in Virtual
Communities” by Caroline Kieu Linh Valverde, does a good job of describing what
type of resources Vietnam obtains and has access too in regards to computer,
technology and internet. The author makes a valid point when internet is very
rare and many of the population do not have the privilege to use the internet
as it is very scarce. Additionally, she was threatened by her handlers because
she was accused of writing offensive stuff according to them. This shows that
being an author is hard because you never know if someone likes or hates the
things that one is writing about. This relates to digital age and cyber space
because we live in a society where technology is essential since almost
everything is industrialized and advanced. We have smartphones that can do
almost everything on it from going on the internet, making a payment or using a
webcam with someone.
If Vietnam had access to
more technology such as smartphones in the 1990’s, what type of society would
Vietnam be?
