week 9: Kristina Nguyen

Daniel Tsang's “Notes on Queer ‘N’ Asian Virtual Sex” discusses how technology has directly effect sexuality especially within the LGBTQ communities. Moreover, his article speaks upon the trends and stereotypes associated with the Asian LGBTQ. During today's society, meeting people online has definitely helped people achieve openness within communication. People are more willing to speak their mind and trust others; but there are some negatives and that goes hand in hand with the ability to deceive others and hiding specifics about oneself. Daniel Tsang writes about a Taiwanese male who decided to change his identity online to White. In doing so, he not only was able to cater to what he felt people "liked," he also received more invites to chat compared to another gay Asian. This shows how stereotypes and discriminations extends far from color but also within other communities such as LGBTQ. Why are Asian male receiving less invites than White male? Although many Asian male participate on these websites, there are many who find White male to be more "attractive" and vice versa where Asians are seen as "feminine." This leaves zero room for Asians who are more "masculine" to meet other members of the community. I think it is important to continue to foster a community that is accepting and understanding. What are some ways we can help achieve the way we perceive people due to race?
