In “In the shadows of stonewall
examining gay transnational politics and the diasporic dilemma” by Martin F.
Manalansan IV, the author does a good job of talking about “stonewall”, a
movement that promotes the protection of rights and well-being of gay, lesbian
and transgender peoples. The author mentions that as “gay” ideologies are
becoming the norm in society, it has still been problematic because there is
still people out there who are against this ideology which creates tension
amongst one another. This is connected to gender and sexuality because we live
in a world where this type of lifestyle is becoming more normal. There is still
homophobic individuals who are against this idea but it has drastically reduced
since our society has become more liberal when it comes this type of lifestyle.
Congress has recently passed the gay marriage laws which grants the rights for
gays to get married if they choose to do so.
Has political
activism such as “stonewall” lead up to Congress passing gay marriage in some
ways? If not, what other motives might persuade Congress to allow this right to
take place?
