Daniel Tsang explores the multi sectional identity of being queer and Asian and how this identity is conveyed via virtual and online spaces. The queer Asian community is one that continues to struggle gaining support from societies we live in today for many reasons. One reason includes the culture of being Asian in which typically queer individuals are not as accepted by their communities, especially those in very traditional Eastern settings as well as online forums being racist or less accepting of Asians. For folks who typically hide their queer identity from family or friends, it may feel safer exposing yourself as queer online where one can adopt a new identity, and may hide their Asian identity. In cases such as this, people are becoming more attached to virtual spaces if they feel more comfortable and still receive the same amount of interaction with other individuals. It is interesting to discuss the identity of being gay and asian holistically and the divide between the fetishization of this identity and the rejection of it. I have to pose the question: when will individuals feel safe enough to be open about their identity equally and does culture play a part in either the admiration or discrimination of queer Asians?
