In the chapter titled, “Social
Transformations from Virtual Communities,” the chapter discusses the No-Nike
labor rights campaign that emerged from the VNForum and how VNForum’s cofounder
created a website (http://dotchuoinon.com)
to connect with Vietnamese via the Internet. These are both important topics in
the sense that the Vietnamese were trying out new ways to connect to the
diasporic Vietnamese populations. This chapter is related to this week’s theme
of Digital Age and Cyber Space because it shows how the VNForum and http://dotchuoinon.com
became an important part of how Vietnamese people could connect with one
another in times of diaspora. This chapter connects to events outside of class
because the Internet is still the most widely used form of communication for
diasporic populations to connect to one another.
Question: What other
digital ways could diasporic populations connect with each other besides the
Internet?
