In Professor Valverde’s chapter, Social Transformation from Virtual Communities, the chapter
discusses the impact of the internet on communities, specifically the
Vietnamese community. The internet has made it much easier for people to access
the internet and Professor Valverde explains how the internet helped her as a
young scholar. This phenomenon had brought together communities in Vietnam and
those oversees to work together. Unfortunately, there is still many regulations
by the Vietnamese government. Some websites that would allow for communist
individuals and anticommunist individuals to come together and talk. This lead
to multiple attacks on people due to their different political views and
overall became uncontrollable. Today, not everyone on Vietnam has access to the
internet because many people in Vietnam have to go to internet cafes to access
the internet.
Question: In a world where social media is highly popular
around the world, how regulated is the internet today in Vietnam?
