Louisa Schein discusses in their
essay “Diaspora Politics, Homeland Erotics, and the Materializing of Memories”
how men from the “west” would go back to their homeland and take advantage of homeland
women, promising a way out of their peasant life and into an extravagant
one. Schein also touches base on the
concept of “home” for the Hmong community, as most of them that are living in
the United States try to come to terms with understanding that concept. As a Hmong woman, stories of Hmong men going
back to the homeland and marrying/sleeping with young women is a story told far
too many times. How can something as big
and wide as tourism in Southeast Asia be stopped and how can these women who
have been taken advantage of be helped?
