Hmong Couple Marriage Love Wedding Painting Art image 0

In Louisa Schein “Diaspora Politics, Homeland Erotics and the Materializing of Memory.” and their Descendants in Brazil.”, she talks about the Hmong diaspora and how they had to adapt to as their homeland was essentially gone. Her argument was that homelands were "concrete sites both for capital accumulation and for erotic entanglements." (699) She talks about how the Hmomg needed to cone to America and asking for someone to save them kinda like a prince. This is a way of romanticizing the yearning for their homeland like Schein noted. It was interesting that even though people move within a diaspora, they want to yearn for their homeland which can happen as the Hmong romanticize it. However, how does gender play a role in this? Is it because of the prince charming trying to save them mentality or is it something else?
