Week 7___Anna Yang__ASA114

In this week's reading of Popular Music : Sound of Home Resistance and Change by Kieu Linh Caroline Valverde, she talks about how music has been a significant tool for the diasporas in Vietnam. However, over time music has changed due to censorship. This type of music helped bridge the culture for the Vietnamese community where it created a hybrid culture. However, the ever so famous music Paris by Night helped contribute to the growing community to help bring people together transcending borders. This reminds me of how Korean pop has a been an important tool in recent years. Many people know Korean pop music which allows people to recognize this small country that created a wave of influence and allow for tools to bridge different cultures.

Discussion Question : In modern times, I noticed a recent trend regarding asians and raving and how has this become its own diaspora in America?
